BA (Hons) Media Production

The Conservation and Education Centre at the former Bristol Zoo Gardens site remains open to students.

You will have private access to the zoo grounds during lectures, to carry out your observations and data collection, but as more animals are moved, this will gradually be carried out at the Bristol Zoo Project. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You will explore the various enterprise opportunities available to you in the creative industries, from profit-based businesses to not-for-profit charitable or voluntary organisations, community media programmes, and public or privately funded projects. In addition to exploring these in theoretical and conceptual ways, you will be supported to develop your own real-world enterprise project, suited to your long-term goals and aspirations, and may involve applying for appropriate funding. For this module you will explore the current and emerging models of enterprise in the creative industries, including film and television, sound recording and design, graphics and web development, though with scope allowed for you to explore other types of media practice and emerging media.

Professional Practice and Live Briefs

This module aims to give you opportunities to experience situations that closely resemble those you are likely to have when working in various media production contexts. These experiences could take the form of paid or unpaid commissions, internships, projects completed for real-world clients, or in collaboration with students on other courses and should be tailored to each student's career aims and ambitions. As well as developing content and producing media outcomes you will document the working relationships throughout the process as part of your portfolio of evidence. You will present your experience of work from these professional situations in the form of a presentation, and reflect upon the products produced for your portfolio, and what you have learned, both in a technical sense and professionally.
