Access to Media Make-up & Hair Design

The Conservation and Education Centre at the former Bristol Zoo Gardens site remains open to students.

You will have private access to the zoo grounds during lectures, to carry out your observations and data collection, but as more animals are moved, this will gradually be carried out at the Bristol Zoo Project. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The Access to Media Make-up and Hair Design course is for individuals 19+ who want to enter higher education to study for a degree within creative make-up and hair and prosthetic make-up courses. This Access course provides an exciting programme, designed to match current industry training expectations for the role of a Media Hair and Make-up Artist (HMUA); this course will enable you to enter degree study for advanced skills learning and progress towards industry employment.

This is a one-year course delivered in a blended learning model with two days in college and one day online. This course is for mature students (19+) returning to education or wishing to pursue a different career route.

The coursework is broad and varied to help you develop your own ideas and skills. The course content gives you the opportunity to explore a wide range of different disciplines; this enables you to explore the core of specialist make-up and hair design, whilst giving you the knowledge to build on your practical, and creative skills.

Funding this course

As this course is for individuals 19+ you can apply for an Advanced Leaner Loan to cover the costs of this course. Eligibility for the loan doesn’t depend on your income, and there are no credit checks and Interest is charged from the date the first payment is made to us. The Advanced Learner Loan, plus any interest, has to be paid back, but not until you’ve finished or left your course, and your income is over the repayment threshold. You may be able to get Adult Education Budget (AEB) grant funding however you will need to check this with us before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan as you can’t get both types of support.

You can get your loan wiped by progressing and completing a Foundation or BA/BSc (Hons) degree progamme.

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. This means you would not have to repay the Advanced Learner Loan.
